There are five main hills to the north of Achnashellach in Strathcarron, each with its own distinctive character. Three are Munros but the other two, Fuar Tholl and An Ruadh-stac, give nothing away to their higher neighbours and, if anything, are perhaps even more rugged. All are well worth a visit.

The picture was taken on a January afternoon from Beinn Damh, a lovely hill which overlooks Upper Loch Torridon and gives a great short day out. Maol Chean-dearg is left of centre, with An Ruadh-stac to its right. Beinn Liath Mhor and Sgurr Ruadh, the other two Achnashellach Munros, are on the far left. On the southern horizon are the Strathcarron and Monar hills.
