The south Cluanie ridge is a great day out. As well as being a long and interesting ridge in itself, it has terrific views of the surrounding hills, particularly to the south and west. Spidean Mialach (on the left) and Gleouraich both have impressive northern corries and look very different from here than from the south, and the view of Loch Quoich and the mountains south and west to Knoydart always seems to me to have something approaching a Norwegian quality. Going from east to west, Maol Chinn-dearg is about half way along after a nice narrow section of ridge from Aonach air Chrith. Anyone not wanting to do the whole ridge at once can reach here, or descend from here, by a beautifully graded stalkers path direct to its north east ridge from the A87. |
