The highly individual mountains of Coigach and Assynt form one of the country's most distinctive landscapes. The picture shows, on the left, the twin summits of Beinn an Eoin with Stac Pollaidh behind, then Suilven, Cul Mor and Cul Beag. In the distance on the right are Conival and Ben More Assynt. It was taken shortly before sunset from Speicin Coinnich, a rocky point at the eastern end of Ben Mor Coigach. This gives an interesting ascent up a steepening and narrowing ridge from Loch Eadar dha Bheinn, easily reached from Blughasary in Strath Kanaird. All these hills have tremendous character and wonderful views. Don't make the mistake of leaving them until you've done the higher mountains - they're far better than a good many Munros. |
