The Cobbler is the lowest, but the best and most interesting, of the Arrochar Alps and is one of Scotland's most popular hills. There are three peaks on the summit ridge; the north peak, although spectacularly steep to the east with many good rock routes, is an easy stroll from the ridge while the south peak is the most difficult of the three for walkers but great for climbing. The central and highest summit is shown in the picture, a block about 5m high which is really no more than an easy scramble, although in bad weather the rocks can be slippery and the exposure over the drop to the east then becomes a little more conspicuous.

I had come up from Arrochar the previous evening and camped just south of the summit. By dawn it was calm and the start of a glorious spring day, with some early hill fog drifting over the hills to the north soon dissipating. The sun appeared shortly after 5a.m. and the picture was taken at 05.40 - Ben Lomond is to the left, Loch Long and the Luss hills in the centre, and The Brack to the right.
