Overnighting on the Cuillin ridge in good weather can be a magical experience. Bivvying is the best option unless you can find somewhere for a tent high in one of the corries. On this occasion I found space for the tent on a tiny patch of grass in upper Fionn Choire just below the ridge from Am Basteir to Sgurr a'Bhasteir, from where I watched the sun set beyond MacLeod's Tables. The picture was taken about an hour after sunrise just above the Bealach nan Lice, looking towards the imposing shapes of Am Basteir and Sgurr nan Gillean. The Garbh-bheinn/Clach Glas/Bla Bheinn ridge is in the distance on the right, with Belig and Beinn na Cailleach to its left, while the mainland hills lurk in the distant haze. |
