Just like Beinn Dearg, (see the April page), Foinaven has been subjected to some recent heavy surveying to see whether it was a Munro and, just like Beinn Dearg, it isn't. It came in at 911.046m, or 3.35m short. It will therefore in all liklihood remain relatively quiet, which just goes to show what a daft game Munro-bagging can be when some people would rather climb a Geal-Charn or two instead of something like this. This is a quite superb mountain and has far more character than a good many Munros.

I had left the car near Achfary the previous afternoon and taken the stalkers track from Lone to the Bealach Horn, then north to Creag Dionard and west to Stob Cadha na Beucaich where I put the tent up on the edge of the drop down to Coire na Lurgainn. A beautiful, vivid sunset was followed hours later by a beautiful, vivid sunrise after which I went along the ridge to the summit, where the picture was taken. It wasn't until I was nearly back at Lone that I met anyone else, a party of three on their way to Arkle. An unforgettable 24 hours.
