NEW ON HIGHLAND LIGHT

25 March 2008

The monochrome and environment galleries are now loaded and work continues on the Mountain pages. The front cover image has been updated and shows a toned monochrome image of Swinner Gill in the Yorkshire Dales.

I'm afraid that work and other pressures have delayed things (yet again!), but two more galleries are now uploaded and the others are well in hand. The Mountain Days gallery will contain much more than just pictures and will be uploaded in sections, starting with the Southern Highlands and working north, and will eventually supercede the Calendars section which, since I am no longer the publisher, will be dropped. This however doesn't mean that the calendar itself is dropped - Colin Baxter Ltd are producing a 2009 version, which should be available from May, and will again have 13 of my own panoramic images.

The front page photograph has been updated; it now shows the Skye Cuillin from the Strathcarron hills, and is a black and white image which has been split toned.

22 November 2007

The first image gallery, of panoramic landscapes, is up and running. The shop pages have yet to be updated for this, but this will follow shortly.

The Home page image has been updated and now shows the Trotternish hlls and the north west coast of Skye.

10 November 2007

The shop pages are now operational, with secure online payment facilities through PayPal. Ultimately all photographs displayed on the site will be available for purchase as prints but, for the moment, this is restricted to the pictures which have appeared in the Scottish Mountains Calendar over it's five years of publication. The Gallery pages have been delayed due to pressure of other work, but the first will be ready within the next few days.

21 September 2007

Highland Light is back online after a lengthy break.

This marks the return to publication of The Scottish Mountains Calendar, albeit with a new publisher, Colin Baxter Photography Ltd. This is a well known company specialising in books and calendars, and has a wide presence in shops and other outlets across Scotland. Colin himself has been a professional photographer for many years and I have worked with him before on some of their projects, including Cameron McNeish's big-selling book, The Munros.

Although it's a matter of some regret to me that I've not been able to see the calendar through by myself, I'm hopeful that the publisher's wide and successful experience of the market will secure the calendar's future for a while yet.

COMING SOON - Look out for a new book, "The Scottish Mountains".

According to the cover notes:

"Scotland's mountain landscapes are among the most striking and fragile in northern Europe. They possess a special magic that casts a spell over the many who come to behold them.

Here is a unique collection of mountain images from high among the Scottish hills themselves. They reflect a passion for high mountains and wild places. Running through these vistas is the kaleidoscopic effect of light in all its varieties - for the beauty of the Scottish hills is ever-changing. Here too is the swing of the seasons, from the crisp clarity of winter to the warm glow of summer, from the freshness of spring to the burning reds and browns of autumn.

Scotland's mountains offer an important balance to modern life. We look to the hills to find inspiration and rejuvenation in nature's constant, yet always changing world. Here is Scotland's mountain realm as you have never experienced it before."

The Scottish Mountains, with photographs by Alan Gordon and text by Hamish Brown, is published in October and will be available in all good bookshops, priced £17.95 or less.
